OK time to start on what tools we will need. For some tools there is several ways to skinning a cat so I will try to help you with the strong points and the weak points.
First off we will need something to cut leather with. I have seen this done with everything from a box knife to a band saw. My top to choices would be a good pair of leather shears or a round knife hear is a link for a round knifes http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/h...vlocation=left
And here is a link for shears http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/h...vlocation=left
Now I own a good pair of shears and a round knife shears are nice but my round knife stays close to me at all times. That being said you can do this projects with a good pair of shears. If you do get a round knife you will need to get a good cutting board I would suggest Wal-Mart you can get a rather large plastic( plastic do to the round knife will glide over it but not dull the knife) I will also take this opportunity to say that you can get these tools from other places I am just using Tandy for its one stop shop. For a beginner I would say shears, a round knife you can cut a lot more then you want ( yourself) but if you get serious about leather a round knife is irreplaceable.
For a saddle stitch you will need several tools to get started a basic set to get would be this http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/h...ture=Product_5
The only thing I would replace would be the awl and I would get this one http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/h...ure=Product_12 again you can use the awl that come with it and it has replaceable tips for different things but for stitching not the best.
I will hold off on the tools for lacing for another night if you have any questions email me I have been keeping my pms pretty busy and would hate to miss a question from someone.

OK depending on on how many holster you will want to build will depend on how much leather you need for oyour firsst holster if you just want to try it at first i would suggest a single shoulder in the 7-9 oz range. If you have several frinds that would like to do a holster as well somtimes it it cheaper to buy a bigger piece.

I'd like to make one like the one holding the blue practice gun. I'd like to do the thumb break a littel different, but that is all a matter of how it is cut. Are your seams hand sewn or machine?
Here is the pics of the build along it is a basic holster but i just thought i would start off with somthing basic since most have not done any leather work
