The cultipacker is awesome as is, get a small tractor and it will help you out in your plots also. My two cents.

The end product will look a lot like this:

I have disc version from tuffline and LOVE it!! I need to get the cultipacker I guess now...

Glad to hear it. We picked one up this year, too. Based on my research I think ours is the heavier of the two models available. I'm looking forward to seeing how it does. We went out and sprayed two weeks ago and will be trying to get out this coming weekend or next for mowing, discing, fertilizing and packing. We'll see if there's enough time.

Looks like it rolls pretty good.
I've been researching designs and configurations for about a year.
Still curious as to the amount of weight you are putting to the ground.

Using averages, each roller weighs 14#. Multiplied by 30 = 420#. Axle has to weigh 50#. Bearings are about 20# each. Frame is probably close to 100#. Plus paint [emoji1] I bet we're looking at between 600 and 650 pounds. There's very little tongue weight. It's footprint is just about 5.5'. As long as it doesn't anchor itself into any mud I might cross, I think I'll have enough weight to get the job done.

Just for grins I recycled most of the old frame and welded on some railroad spikes tonight to make a drag to use after discing to level things out some. It can be flipped to the smooth side, too.

Can a quad pull that without throwing you over the handlebars when it encounters roots? I can see it working good in clean land, but being a pain behind a quad with roots.

Only one way to find out! My soil is fairly root free and clean as its been disced up by a big tractor the last 5 years.

Being that this cost me nothing to build, I figured worst-case, I can flip it to the smooth side to try to break up chunks of soil with it. Either way, it's better than the $0.50 the scrap yard would pay me for the metal.

what I would do is take the whole wheel lift system off, weld the tires to the top. take that center piece of square tubing and cut it in half. find a smaller tub that would fit in side that weld your hitch to it and drill a hole and pin it. That way you can turn your packer over to the wheels and pull it from place to place and when you get to your destination turn it over on the packer pull your pin turn your hitch and away you go. you loose the weight of the lift system.

Sorry no artist. Also maybe moving your tires closer to the front of your packer instead of center might get you enough room the tire wont hit the ground to flip it.
