My buddies and I have decided to take on some food plotting this year. We have been subbing it out in years past. We've bought a few pieces of equipment but do not have a tractor. As such, everything runs behind our fourwheelers and side by sides.
So I've been eyeing cultipackers as a piece of "want list" equipment. Problem is, they're crazy expensive. So I've been watching craigslist without a lot of luck. I was cruising CL on Thursday and ran across this:

He called it a ring roller. It turns out to be a cultipacker and seeder in one. I told him I'd come take a look today. Upon inspection, it looked pretty ragged. The seeder wasn't functional and any and all nuts and bolts were "rust welded" together - making it tough to work on. In my estimation it also weighed at least 1k lbs. So I tire kicked a little and we struck a deal.
Got it home safely (enough) and started after it with the grinder. I took off the axle and all the wheels.

I cut the worn out ends of the axle with my cold saw and decided on a 5 foot width. So far, here's what's sitting there:

I bought some flange bearings that should be here next week.

I'm going to work on the frame and tongue when the bearings arrive so I get my frame size exactly right.
More to come!
