Update:
Both front storage access holes were enlarged.

That grab bar..
Hoping to plumb electronics wiring inside didn’t happen.
The grab bar has aluminum tongue and groove mounts between pipe and plates, no room inside.
Next best option…simply ... drill an inch and a half diameter hole in the grab bar base, the thicker aluminum base that bolted to the boat and .100 aluminum subfloor. Piece of cake, right?
Lol, no.


Soldered, shrink-wrapped connections and fished the wires and hose under floor. I’ll mount transducer and gps receiver tonight.

Built a seat back out of Star board, chamfered for the o/c look and got it mounted.


Bolted electronics to the backside.


Hydro-Turf came in. I’ll start cutting templates this week.

I might be a bit late but i used to watch my brother Polish the aluminium tanks and wheels on his 379 pete and after the last polish bar he would use a gasoline soaked rag to get the black stuff off kinda worked on swirl marks as well

Marine electronics update:

Trading my fishing buddy for an old…but new, never mounted GPS/sonar.
Seemed like a good way to save some coin on a boat project that is way over budget, right?

I need GPS and good marine mapping to keep my aluminum prop off the shell.

Had the box, owner’s manual, all the parts and she powered-up when I hooked it to a battery in the garage.
Here we go.

Simply…mounted the unit in the boat, fished the wires under the floor, mounted the antenna, mounted the transducer and first power up.
Antenna not sending GPS info to unit.
Checked everything, over and over.
Not receiving signal.


Ok, I’ll get help from the world wide web.
And according to the internet, the LGC 2000 antenna is possibly the worst GPS antenna ever made.


Sweet..
It worked once, for 15 seconds and now is dead.

Maybe the problem is the antenna.
Maybe it’s the unit.
Or maybe it’s the cable.

What is for certain, its out of warranty.

A generic antenna and cable is less than $150 and may or may not work, depending on which software version of the LMS 330c my unit is operating on. I’ve wore out my welcome with Lowrance tech support.

Last ditch effort, soft reboot of the unit.
Viola, we are receiving GPS signal.

Now to get the maps working.
The unit came with a Navionics Premium Hotmaps SD card, preloaded with the “Southern Lakes” maps.


Inserted the card in the unit and powered-up.
The unit was defaulting to the crappy Lowrance built-in maps.
Scrolling through the menu, the two options were the Lowrance Maps or a tiny Navionics “demo map area” in Miami Florida.
It’s not reading the SD card.

I have the Navionics ap on my phone, a username and can log in to their website.


I’ve Downloaded the software to update my maps and card on my home computer, it sees my chip and acts like its updating it, but not sure.

Looks like Jan, 1, 2016 Navionics discontinued the Premium Hotmaps.

So..
I have the $15 Navionics ap for my phone, which doesn’t help with my Lowrance unit.
And I have a discontinued Navionics Premium Hotmaps SD card which was preloaded with maps of the Southern United States, which my unit doesn’t read, but the Navionics software on my computer can see.

Guessing I will have to purchase another Navionics SD card?
And will a new card work with my outdated unit?

Did anybody besides Alwaysinshorts actually read this tale of woe?
I'm all ears if you got any insight..

Hopefully can speak to a human at Navionics today.
Anything can be accomplished with time and money.

I vote that you use that as a depth finder only and invest in a nice handheld unit with updated everything. Best of both worlds that it can be used elsewhere (like in the car instead of your phone, hiking, hunting elk in CO, etc.) and you can keep the depth finder on full screen mode instead of split screen when screaming down the river.

You could also just use your phone for GPS if there is a good enough app.

Aside from that, if you want an all-in-one only I would spring for new and not throw any more money at that unit.
