1/2" walls for tripod legs .... hope you don't have to manually tote them long.

      Wow a 20' tri-pod would be awesome!

Or you could dig some holes to anchor it further. If your winds are like mine(at the hunting area), it'd sure keep it from blowing over....

Just think how far you could see those deer coming in.... And at that height you could camo it to look like a tree....

Just trying to give some different options other then cutting it. Seems everytime I cut something down, I wish I could put it back together.

Renting a porta band saw seems like the way to go. how long do you think the blade will last cutting through drill stem pipe. THe saw should give smooth cuts. what are the negatives about the saw?

I am like Big gun, who is going to be moving these things....I hope they get to where you want them the first time cause moving them is going to be a chore.

Unless your just making a few cuts, I would rent a torch. If your doing more than a few cuts it will be cheaper. We have a stack of drill pipe for projects on our farm and gave up on the saw/blade option very early on.

                Good luck.

Go rent an arc gouge. The cuts won't be pretty but you'll slice through that pipe pretty quick.

How many cuts do you need to make? A portaband blade should cut 15-20 time MINIMUM. I'd imagine a lot more if you had somebody spraying oil while you cut.

Me too. I have beeen cutting all kinds of metal with a hack saw lately. Not sure how it would do on drill stem pipe though.

You need to make sure you got the correct blades on a band saw, if it is drill pipe it is probably 4140 material or simular and therefore hard. It will eat your saw blades, if you use a saws all , well good luck , it can be done but you will be more aggrevated than productive.
Your torch for your use is the best way, go down to the local welders supply and rent some bottles and come home and cut it down.
The 75 to 100 bux you spend will be well worth your time saved and the aggrevation that you wont have to deal with.
This is by far the best advice I've seen posted. If those pipes are anywhere close to being as tough to cut as the guns we send downhole.........you'll wished you'd listened to hcshooter.

Torch is the only way that I'll ever play builder w/again. But if you do decide to try the hacksaw......please please please make a video of your efforts.....it'd be worth getting a laugh.

                                re

has anyone ever cut through drill stem pipe with just a recipricating saw or hack saw. I dont mind if I run through 1 blade per cut. It would still be cheaper than renting the port a band or cutting torch.
