I read recently storing them butt-down can increase the chances of ruining your stocks....over time. They say that the oil gradually works its way down into the wood? I didn't think anything about it. Until I opened some of my grandfathers safes...and I could tell! It promotes fading, cracking, and ruining of the finish. But of course that's for long periods of storage, I'm sure if you get them out and jack with them a lot like I know you do, they're fine...I just wanted to see how many people asked why lol.

If nothing else, raise the rack up, off the floor. Just in case you have a water leak, the stocks will be out of the water. You never know.

Great point! Especially if your WH is in the garage, and bursts (first hand experience)!
