    Did you mortar in the stone that makes up the firepit around the barrel? What mortar did you use?

              just the cheap stuff ($5 /60 lbs) from home depot. Quick crete brand I believe. Used 2 bags total

              had a few left over after building feeder and a bbq pit projeect I gave up on lol, needed something to do with it and my idea was to protect the limestone from the smoke/heat a bit with the steel.

                              im not certain what the black crushed stone is really, but your right, probably not granite
