    Fire pit build/ small patio

Im calculating 8-10k LBS total moved by hand! I Thank God for a safe project and health to do it!

Started out as an idea and lots of inspiration from MikeJ's project. My wife got me a chainsaw for my Bday..so why not cut up some wood...but where do I burn it??

I actually had these 12 pieces of limestone (10X4'' or so)on the side of my house- they must of left them there after building it.SCORE!

    2 tons of limestone flagstone
    2 yards of base gravel
1 yard of a granite type gravel(I have like half of it still..got too much).
    55 gal drum

    Before:

This was the original idea..a pentagon shape with the FREE bricks, a 55Gal drum to burn the wood in. Dug a hole...was a pain as I pretty much live on limestone.

Why buy a tamper/compactor when you can build one with scrap metal??

    Layed the base

Put up the metal trim and stack/mortar/level the pit

Got to use a chisel and hammer to clean up one of the bricks.

I did get a mason blade for my chopsaw to cut some pieces.

-Level everything/mortar Was a pain on the furthest side as the ground is sloped and I wanted it leveled..

Started laying the flagstone after cleaning up the pit a bit

    This is the granite stuff

    Done

    Layed granite

    Swept it in

    All cleaned up

I axe cut some wood today(red oak I believe..looks dry enough..scored some for free from CL!!

May or may not paint the drum... Not going to lie..will keep it classy rocking the foldable chairs..

Headed to the store for a 6 pack, some hotdogs and what ever else I can burn up! Will enjoy it along with a Gurkha Cigar tonight!

It's pricy...$90 for a yard.talked the guy down quite a bit since I got everything from him.

Not sure, all adds up fast though. Took me a while to get it done..lol..sep 12th was the first pic i took..so didn't hurt all at once. Most expensive part was the flagstone. , about $280 if I recall. The metal border which isn't completely needed was $70. Can probably be done for under $600 if planned correct..the place I go to even sales previously used limestone from old torn down buildings for cheap than the new stuff.there are some nice 10x4 brick in the pile

Thanks guys. The big launch didn't go as planned...fire was way too low to the ground to cook smores or hot dogs(had to bust out the welding gloves to hold the skewers all the way down there lol)...so I made a stand to elevate where there wood would burn. Can also double as a small grill..lucky I had all the metal.

That looks great, very nice work. I especially like the contrast between the limestone and gravel.
