    6x8 Box Blind Build

Wanted to share with TBH another blind build. As kids are getting older, we are needing more space. Have enjoyed the project, not completed yet, but planning to have it ready and installed in the field Labor Day weekend.

A few notes from the build:
    - Utilized an old 4x6 blind steel frame, cut/spliced additional steel supports to increase the dimensions.
    - Utilized 2x3 lumber for slight weight savings. Window trim 8’ PT fence pickets, stripped in half
    - walls and roof are modular for easier transportation to the field. Walls are secured to base with bolts. Roof is framed to fit inside walls space.
    - Ordered several Deer View windows to be installed (pending delivery).
    - utilized the Smart Siding for walls, have been very happy with the value and quality during construction.
    - reinforced door with lumber framing to increase durability
    - Leg extensions to be added to increase height from 4’ to around 10’
    - Pending activities (most will be in field after transport): a few more shelves, carpet, paint, exterior corner trim, joint sealing, roof panels (galv sheet metal R-Panel), window install, flashing above windows, interior hardware (hooks, gun holders, acoustic foam panels on walls, etc)

That's a really good looking blind! What is the height of your front vs the back? I like the vents you have in there as well.

This is exactly what I hope to build this weekend with my brother. A nice 6x8 with a vertical bow window in the middle. But I was going to make one of the horizontal windows for full size adults and a slightly lower.

What thickness did you use for the flooring and what thickness for the side wall?

I was thinking 5/8" for the floor and maybe some light weight 1/8" bead board for the walls. I was also thinking about using old scrap carpet and covering the floor (as you did) but also running it up the walls to help mitigate noise. Especially the bottom 4' where kids hang out and tap/bump into things!

Thanks. I believe it’s around 8”. I sketched it up being 12” drop over the 6’ but ended up less.

On the vents, wanted to make sure some airflow in when we aren’t there with windows open.

I went with 3/4”, there is a mid-frame support, seems plenty solid enough. I considered putting carpet on the walls as well, but opted not to. I’ve done it before, don’t see any reason it wouldn’t help. Especially with kids kicking and knocking things over, probably a good call!

I bought several egg crate acoustic foam pads I intend to put on the interior once it’s setup.

Looks like you're ready for a fun work weekend.

we started a blind this weekend as well with ideas we kidnapped from you. Wishing we made it come apart in panels. We just got bigger and bigger and it is a monster now.

Had a great, exhausting weekend getting the box blind, along with ground blind and ladder stand, relocating a couple feeders. Boys had a fun time on UTV and swimming in the pond while I worked. Deer were around the property all weekend, not very spooked by the activity, surprisingly.

Decided against installing the leg extensions. Risk vs reward I didn’t feel comfortable. Had to utilize the tractor to get final side in place. Very heavy!

                          Ready for season!
