Build a box like everyone says BUT run your exhaust pipe about 10 to 15 feet in the air. Dont put an extra muffler on it. When you go to swap meets and stuff like that where people boondock, they run their generator exhaust pipes up in the air to move the noise out.

I applaud your effort to quiet the generator. I'm not sure how necessary it is from a 'hunting' perspective, but from the perspective of other people, they'll appreciate it.
I have gone through many stages from very primitive camping to currently sleeping in a camper with electricity hookup at a pole. But at one lease a few years ago, I was in my 'pop up' camper stage, with no electric at all. We had a nice remote camping spot and my son and I were ready for bed on a nice cool night. Another hunter climbed into his rented 5th wheel and started moving all around as we settled in for the night. Soon he had a monster generator cranked up and running his heater, TV, cell phone charger, etc. It definitely impacted our enjoyment of the night.
Instead of the serenade of owls, crickets, and coyotes, everything was muted by the constant noise of that generator all night (even though he had it set up about 50 feet on the other side of his 5th whell).

Thanks for all of the responses guys. I have actually been talking it over with the wife and with my parents and may not have to use the generator long if at all. We are talking about having electricity run so we can spend more time out there throughout the year! We'll just keep the generator as backup.
I remember camping out out there growing up and not having electric and really enjoyed it, but with 3 kids (the youngest 18 months) and one on the way, this way everybody is comfortable & will make it easier to just pack clothes for the weekend & go.
Thanks again for all of the ideas!
