      Final Product

Well I finally had a chance to finish the project up tonight. Had to order a piece of plexi from a glass shop. Siliconed (sp) it in tonight and hooked up all the electronics.

Sound is good. It is what you can expect out of 6" speakers. Treb. is great, bass is questionable. No surprise there, but trust me it is plenty loud. The wife came outside and yelled at me to turn it down that I was disturbing the neighborhood.

Battery longevity is still a question. I'm thinking it will be good. I took it with me this past weekend to Wimberley. We sat out on a porch for a few hours on Friday night and then about 4 hours out by the river and it's still going strong. I'll have to report back on that later, but its looking good.

Very nice! It puts all of our little DIY radio builds to shame! Good work!

Nice job. Not to jack your thread, but I was looking at doing the same as you with on-top speakers, but after much research - found it was way more than i wanted to tackle. I ended up buying this kit from Amazon "Pyle PLMRKT4A 4 Channel Waterproof MP3/ iPod Amplified 6.5'' Marine Speaker System" for around $95. It has everything you need for a river radio except for an on/off switch. I built an enclosure out of MDF - about $5. Then used bedliner spray to cover it. Then painted the speaker covers black to match. I used a 12V deer feeder battery that is mounted in the middle. Then there are two bolts that can secure it to the top of an ice chest. The only downside it's a little top-heavy. I may install the battery in cooler. A whole lot less labor than trying to use bondo and fiberglass. Just thought i would help if someone else was trying to make one. The simplest thing would be to just install the amplifier kit inside the cooler - and the speakers on the each side, but then you lose your cooler, but would be easier. You can see a picture of it on the Amazon website. I'm not able to post a picture.

Iv also been thinking of making one. I plan on using the kit Clusinger mentioned im just wondering whats the weight and did you also use a 12v battery or bigger or smaller?
