GOP puts forward an alternative to Student Loan Forgiveness

I could support this bill. Students still pay their principal, but interest will have a maximum.

It is way better than $197 Billion in loan giveaways.

Republicans on Thursday unveiled a plan to relieve student debt without using taxpayer dollars to fund student loan forgiveness.

"It would also cap the amount of money students could borrow from the federal government".

This could be a sticking point. Are you able to get private student loans right now? I had private loans that were converted to loans from the G-men without me asking.

Screw that. unless the government is going to give everyone the same handout for their home mortgage it’s just more wealth transfer. Tired of having to work for what I have and seeing our socialist idiots (both republicans and democrats fall into the socialist category IMHO ) give our tax money away.

No to all the BS. This is America. If one can't get a loan or "suffer" and work to pay for college then to bad.

          It's really not that hard.

              Ya big no from me.

How about the govt stop providing the guaranty on student loan debt. Doing so would cut down on financing available and colleges would have to reduce costs to get students.

Get rid of the govt guarantees and allow students loans to be included in bankruptcy. Just like any other debt!

I’m on board with the student paying it all back.
Just like my son did about 4 or 5 years ago!!!

I am just wondering, what is the percentage of students needing debt forgiveness that graduate or even attended Hillsdale College?
I tend to think it is almost zero if not zero.

How about courts don't let idiots declare bankruptcy?

If you've ever watched people abuse BK laws it's insane. My sister picked up her friend and husband from bankruptcy court and took them straight to the casino. LOL

Better than the dem prposal but still no. On a personl level it really sticks in my craw. We told our sons if they kept their grades up and graduated in four years we would pay for everything (they worked in the summers) we didn’t want to saddle them with debt. They held up their end of the bargain. If the taxpayers end up eating thes loans I could have been about $250,000 richer plus whatever those assets would have earned over the years
