    Refinery shutting down??

I caught the last part of the story on the radio this morning, but they said something about the Phillips 66 refinery in Houston shutting down and converting to storage. About 900 Houstonians will lose their jobs?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe its the P66 Alliance Refinery in Louisiana. Never the less, it will be a big hit the local economy.

Plaquemines Parish leaders on Tuesday were assessing the potential economic damage that could be looming with the loss of one of the biggest employers in the area, after Houston-based Phillips

It is in Louisiana. It’s not uncommon practice when they sit down an older facility it makes it into some type of terminal. Reason being from what I was always told it was easier & economical to make it a terminal due to all the contamination in the soil etc. ack in the earlier days we just let things go to the ground, sewers etc.

Ah! Ok, so not Houston, but still sad to hear about the loss of jobs. I'm sure those were great jobs, too.

But they can always go get one of the high paying green energy jobs brandon keeps talking about.

So if this is a refinery that is shutting down, that means even less refined oil products on the market, correct?

Part of the overall plan. No new refineries and shut down older ones. When do you think gas will be $6/gal?

This type of activity of shutting down refineries has been going on for decades.

We're fortunate to live in the state with the lion's share of US refining capacity. The cost of fuel will fluctuate with the price of oil, but we'll always pay less than our yankee brethren.

It's inevitable. Electric car estimated to be 35% of new car sales by 2040. I think it may be faster with the new generation of soy boys.

Yeah, but not building new, more efficient ones?

No P66 refinery in Houston. And, they tried to sell the place in La.. No buyers. You will see more of this in the next few years. Especially with the smaller players that cannot adapt to both fossil and renewable energy.

This will be the 5th refinery in the US to shut down in the past 12-18 months.
