    FYI
The Texas Military Department is commanded by the Adjutant General of Texas, who is appointed by and reports to the Governor of Texas.[7] Headquartered at Building Eight in Camp Mabry, TMD's stated mission is to "provide the Governor and President with ready forces in support of state and federal authorities at home and abroad."[8] It is empowered by Article 4, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution to "execute the laws of the State, to suppress insurrections, and to repel invasions."[9]

Abbott's had to dance with all these raging big city liberals but he's had our back in several places. I'm definitely not a fan of everything and he's been slow to the fight a few times, but it could be worse.

            Old Army ruled.

The culminating assignment of West's career was his assumption of command of the 2d Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division on June 6, 2002. During the Iraq War in 2003, he deployed with his battalion until he was relieved of command by the Army following a use-of-force incident concerning an Iraqi policeman. At his Article 32 hearing, West admitted violating Army rules by holding the policeman captive, punching him in the face, conducting a mock execution and by dry-firing an unloaded pistol held against the Iraqi's head. West was subsequently allowed to retire in 2004.[22]

            Iraq torture incident
While serving in Taji, Iraq, West received information from an intelligence specialist about a plot to ambush his unit. The alleged plot involved Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi, an Iraqi police officer. West had his men detain Hamoodi.[24] Soldiers testified that in the process of detaining Hamoodi, he appeared to reach for his weapon and needed to be subdued.[24] Hamoodi was beaten by four soldiers from the 2/20th Field Artillery Battalion on the head and body.[25] West then fired his pistol near Hamoodi's head,[24] after which Hamoodi provided West with names and information, which Hamoodi later described as "meaningless information induced by fear and pain".[24] At least one of these suspects was arrested as a result, but no plans for attacks or weapons were found.[24] West said "At the time I had to base my decision on the intelligence I received. It's possible that I was wrong about Mr. Hamoodi."[24]

West was charged with violating Articles 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. During a hearing held as part of an Article 32 investigation in November 2003, West stated, "I know the method I used was not right, but I wanted to take care of my soldiers."[25] The charges were ultimately referred to an Article 15 proceeding rather than court-martial, at which West was fined $5,000.[24] West accepted the judgment and retired with full benefits as a lieutenant colonel in the summer of 2004. Asked if he would act differently under similar circumstances, West testified, "If it's about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I'd go through hell with a gasoline can."[25] At his hearing, West said that there were no ambushes against American forces in Taji until he was relieved of his leadership post a month later.[25] After West's retirement he received more than 2,000 letters and e-mails offering him moral support.[24] A letter supporting West was signed by 95 members of the U.S. Congress and sent to the Secretary of the Army.[24]

This is exactly why he will get my vote!

"it could be worse" is the reason we have mush, spineless R's like Abbott. It's another way of saying "at least they aren't a democrat". Whether it's a brown **** or green ****, it's still floating in the punch bowl.

Exactly, this kind of fervor is why the MARXISTS are WINNING AT EVERYTHING. We need someone with some balls. How many mayors and governors told Trump to get bent and burnt their cities to the ground? Fight fire with fire. Time to take the gloves off and let the ******* like Cornyn, Cruz, and Abbott go have a seat in the back while some hard men and women get the job done.

He's telling them to pound sand on masks and shutdowns this year (election year). But he told the rest of us to pound sand last year when he mandated masks and shut small businesses down. He had the opportunity to stand against liberal idiots last year when it mattered most, and he didn't. I don't give him a pass for that.

The primary actually probably counts more than the election.

People talk about the lesser of evils in voting. That will always be the case and whoever gets elected will always have less than 50% support originally.

A person’s best chance to have an outcome that they prefer, is to vote in the primary.

In 1980, Ronald Reagan won the presidency in a landslide victory. But..

He got about 60% of the vote in the primary from the Republicans.

That means in the beginning he got no support from the Democrats and just over half from the Republicans. In truth Reagan only had about 30% of the national population in his favor in the primary season. At that time about 70% of the general population wanted someone else. In the actual presidential election however, Reagan’s victory over the income of President Jimmy Carter was huge. The real show however was in the Republican primary.

A person’s best chance and maybe only chance to get the person he really supports, is to vote in the primary.

West will have a hard time beating the incumbent but I will be there in the primary doing my part on his behalf.

Hopefully, if he is ever in office he doesn't violate my rights for the greater good.

I would guess that is far less likely to occur than if any Dem, especially Beto, takes over as Governor.

And exactly how did he violate a US Citizen's rights in the post you quoted? Maybe Im not following correctly.

Not sure what everyone expects Abbot to do. I think politicians are better when they don't do anything.

I don't think Beto can win in Texas after his "hell ya i'm gonna take your ar-15". I guess we will see how many commifornians moved in.
