The way forward on COVID - learn to live with it.

Those of you following the policy debate surrounding this pandemic need to read "The Great Barrington Declaration" linked below. Written by two scientists/infectious disease experts from Harvard and one from Stanford, it calls for an end to destructive lockdowns, saying we must allow people to live normally while protecting the vulnerable. So far it has been signed by over 7,000 health scientists and medical practitioners. The data on the collateral damage caused by the government lockdowns is sad and staggering. The CDC estimates that there have been 93,814 non-Covid “excess deaths” this year, including 42,427 from cardiovascular conditions, 10,686 from diabetes and 3,646 from cancer.

Of course this declaration is getting no exposure in the mainstream press (I found the link in the Wall Street Journal) Covid has become so politicized that the calm reasoning of the Great Barrington scientists is drowned out by the fear and loathing of those who want to blame Donald Trump for every new infection.

It's a short, easy read - find it here:
As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection

I didn't need a declaration by a bunch of scientists to figure that out. Pretty common sense, but the approach we have taken to this has been anything but the common sense approach.

Common sense ain't so common these days. Amazing the amount of United States Citizens that just go along and don't even seem to question the overreaching government lockdowns and mandates. Curious to see how our country comes out of all of this moving forward. I've been very disappointed in our sheepish response thus far.

Exactly what I've been saying since March. I still can't believe how stupid our nation's response to this has been. There are lots of folks who are so emotionally invested (brainwashed) by it all that I don't know if they'll ever give up their paranoia and masks and all of that. It's really sad.

I really don't think Trump would have called for extensive lockdowns at all, however he has to play along or it will kill his chances of getting re-elected. not that playing has helped him much in the media but it would have been so much worse.

Totally agreed. It's mind-boggling to see play out.

Pretty much what I have thought and been saying since mid March also. I never wore a mask until they were mandated and forced on me by a capitulating governor. I did do my due diligence and loaded my tired old body with good high vitamin fresh food and OTC vitamins and minerals and plenty of good 14 year old scotch followed by them good La Aroma de Cuba seegars.

One more thing. Alcohol kills germs and is used to disinfect erthang and is supposed to kill Covid. PLUS it tastes good when properly mixed or straight.

yep, same thing here and additionally i questioned why we were handling this pandemic so differently from past pandemics. the simple answer was POLITICS!

Yeah, level-headed, average Americans with common sense have instinctively known this all along. I'm not holding my breath but maybe that same opinion expressed by scientists from the liberals favored institutions will get some traction. Maybe?

I hope so. It will gradually and eventually, but it will take a long time for some people to come to their senses (if they have any left).

M.C. and I spent a long weekend in the Hill Country last weekend. We hiked at Lost Maples and Garner. It was a beautiful weekend to be out. But I just had to shake my head in amazement at the folks who were out there hiking with masks on. Most people weren't wearing them, of course. But some wore them full time. Some had them on, but pulled down until they saw some other people coming. Then they'd quickly pull their masks up for the brief 2 seconds it takes for people to pass each other on a hiking trail.

I just can't even begin to understand the thought process that leads people to live like that. I truly feel sorry for them. It's gotta be miserable to be that afraid and paranoid. And I really hate it for the kids who are being trained to be that way.

I just came back from a trip to Sam's Club...Had to stop by their customer service desk... I was the only person (customer or employee) that I saw at first that did not have a mask on.. The two ladies behind the counter that assisted me, by the time we were done, they had both pulled their masks off while working with me... I saw 3 or 4 others in the store while I was walking around without a mask on also pulled their off or down under their chins... It's catching on, but VERY slowly in a lot of places... I was in South Texas the past few days and most patrons in the stores I visited were maskless and all the employees for the most part were not wearing masks...

I dont think there was an issue with the precautions early on - mainly due to this being a virus that we really had any clue on how to deal with, or what it could do.

Now that we have lived with it and seen the corresponding numbers and symptoms and side effects, I believe it should absolutely be a lets do what we can to live with it now.

I was out and about as soon as we could be. Masked up and doing what we had to, but I was out. Every week / weekend I see more and more people doing the same.

Went to Vegas a couple weeks back, and it was the same. Not as it was before, but a lot of people returning.

Same here Shane. It defies common, human logic.

Just had a discussion at work earlier with5 other people... one of which is CLEARLY not going to let go of the fear. I honest to God cannot understand it. And how she (they) become so emotionally triggered and literally angry at those of us who do not share their misguided fear and refusal to think this through logically.

It has been clear to me for a while that most of the measures taken by our very govt have been to geared toward those who they wish to steer toward a more centralized (govt) control of every aspect of not just THEIR lives, but the lives of ALL of us. Because if they can convince them that the govt can protect/save them from COVID then they are willing to cede control and give them all the power they desire... over EVERYTHING and everyone.

Forgetting that: "A government powerful enough to give you everything you want, is powerful enough to take away everything you have."

This "Permanent Emergency" is a politically motivated manufactured crisis to instill fear. And everyone knows that it is much easier to control someone who is in a state of fear than someone who is not.
