    This is awesome

JJ I may have an opportunity for you. Austin will be looking for brave men and women to goto family violence situations and mental disturbed calls and solve the problem. And best of all you don’t carry a gun. You will be perfect for the job and I have plenty of contacts to get you in the door - they need men and women like you to be on the forefront of this movement.

I appreciate that glen - I have stated I believe there are instances that absolutely call for lethal force. I have also acknowledged that failing to respond to police orders is an issue. There are a few issues that all combine to make the mess we are in.

I don’t live in or near Austin. Can’t and won’t leave the North Dallas area until my kids graduate.

I have never claimed to know it all - I do believe in the sharing of ideas and communication in order to affect positive change.

I’m sorry I was having dinner and taking my little girl to cheer. I’ll get back when I can, I always do.

Jacob Blake had a knife on the floorboard of his car when he was shot by police, said the Wisconsin Department of Justice, which also has identified the officer who shot him as Rusten Sheskey.

Jacob Blake admitted he had a knife.

You aren’t right - I don’t always support any one thing other than my Family. I have said I take each incident individually. I mentioned the criminal being absolutely wrong.

You seem totally rational on most issues, this one gets you exceptionally sensitive.

I know a lot of APD cops. I bet we know some of the same cops. They are like any other group of people, some good some bad. I have had conversations with them when they have had cancer diagnosis, divorce and custody issues. A lot of those good cops privately admit that there are APD cops that do not possess the intelligence or temperment to be a police. I have had private converations with APD officers who will freely admit that another officer, who just testified, is a real problem and they disagree with his capability to police.

I've had cops who mistakenly, not maliciously, lied on the witness stand. They then approached me later and admitted their mistake and I never held that against them. I knew it wasn't their intent to deceive. They are good cops.

However, there are other police, whose psychological make up, tells them its ok to lie if it benefits them. They will lie when the truth is a better option.

I am sure your union affiliation prohibits you from making any statement that is even remotely critical of police, even on an anonymous message board, but will you agree that there are ****ty cops even within your own department? Or, is APD the only department in the US that doesn't employ an incompetant officer?

It’s interesting how important family is to you. Yet you want to hamstring police officers and put them in greater danger. They have families to go home to as well. Every additional burden you place on them reduces that chance. You remind me of the politicians that are always willing to send someone else’s sons and daughters off to die. But not your own.

Mistakes are made in every profession. It’s just a fact of life. Especially when you have a split second to make a decision. If you participate in criminal behavior your odds of police interactions increase tenfold. If you fall to obey a lawful order your chances of injury increase tenfold as well.

Nope Roy- I will agree we have people that make it in. Most will expose themselves in first 5 years and get fired or ran off. We are 1800 and we have some idiots. I would imagine we have less than 50 I would put in that category. If they admit they don’t possess the skills to do the job they need to go. I don’t let them work for me. Ask the ones you know and they will tell you I run dead weight out. I know that’s my reputation. I don’t care and I actually think it is a good thing. I do not except liars, cowards, or dead weight in my unit. Ask around let me know what you find out. And trust me I know it is unpopular to be the guy that runs folks off but my units run well

As far as sensitive to sending social workers out front line. Yes I am. The ones we have now I’m friends with some and have not met any that I dislike. I don’t like the idea of sending them front line instead of coming in once the scene is secure and safe

And JJ you and I agree on a lot of issues. I do try to put things in prospective. I think one of the biggest issues is fail to inform and to be transparent. They should release information. I usually can call someone I know that is close and find some out. Taylor I knew was involved in criminal activity and made money that way, Blake I knew about the knife and felt he Officer that did end up shooting him put himself at too much risk for harm. Don’t grab or engage anyone with a edged weapon. Why the DA and City Management do not put out early facts needs to change. Why does stuff that needs to be out have to be leaked weeks and sometimes months later. Most of these leaks will come from Officers but they have to do it in a way that protects their identity as it is actually illegal in most circumstances and probably always at least a department termination

But again it all goes back to one thing - following orders. He would have gone home in tact. Not saying force was warranted, I was not there. But I think I can still guarantee he would not have gotten shot if he had just complied.
