Hell, They just recently tore down a statue of Fredrick Douglas in Rochester, NY.

If you don't know, Douglas was black, an escaped slave, abolitionist.
Close friends with Abe Lincoln, an associate of Harriet Beecher Stowe.
He helped free 100's of slaves and was active in supporting the underground railroad. He was one of the top afro-American historical figures of all times.
