But how did these people even figure out who Lawrence Sullivan Ross was. Let's be honest, the VAST majority of people do not know who Sully is. Everyone knows who General Lee and Columbus was. But how did Governor Sully (and yes Confederate General) get caught up in all this stuff.Last edited by LlanoHunter10; 07-07-2020, 04:17 PM.

Thing is and I’m not even an Aggie fan, but Sully served as a Texas RAnger, a Texas Senator, 2 terms as a Texas governor and he took over A&M when it was about bankrupt and about to shut down. According to what I read about him many Aggie traditions started under his watch. Aggie football, The Aggie Band, the Aggie Ring, etc...He also tutored many students before exams and when they tried to give him something all he asked was for a penny. After he died and the statue was made to honor him students began the tradition of putting a penny on the base of the statue before an exam. So for all the good he done over his lifetime but they want it torn down because of the 4 years he served the Confederacy. It’s senseless.
