There was a young sailor that took pics of his submarine with his phone and they threw him in jail for a year. No messing around with some things military.
Trump pardoned him but not until he served his year already.

No kidding. I've known Battery and Battalion commanders relieved for far less.

Military is a different animal altogether. However, it's the same as the medical folks ratting out their bosses for being unprepared with PPE. Same thing but different altogether.

Trump said in his press conference today that the real issue was that he stopped the ship in Vietnam for shore leave during the Covid outbreak. Which led me to believe that is how the virus made it onto the ship.

Maybe his higher chain of command made a huge military mistake
And he is just the first one to get axed
Here is a link on a very stupid decision to port of call Vietnam

155 confirmed cases on board the ship with 4 or 5,000 sailors/marines would make it a big deal. It will be interesting to know if he knew the virus was in Vietnam at the time of shore leave. Sounds like more to the story but it was obvious his crew had a lot of respect for his decisions.

The powers that be sold out the officers and sailors to flex some political support for the region imo

we will just have to see were this goes up the chain of command

Yes sir, I bet there is more to this than meets the eye. USN was aware that the virus was in China and Carrier makes a port call in VN which has to irk the PRC. You can bet there was a Chinese girl standing there saying "Pssst Hello Sailor". I would be willing to bet there was some discussion on the wisdom of the port call before they docked.

The meeting was probably the captain and a chinese boy and he thought he’d throw smoke with his inappropriate emails.

Since I heard a declaration of war from the President’s lips and the Captain allowed the enemy on board, he should face the firing squad

My wife (former Navy) says he was relieved of his command...which makes him no longer the captain of the ship. He does not loose rank and can be reassigned...maybe to another ship maybe to a shore duty. It does end his career unless HE chooses to.

                          .....and God Bless America.

It can definitely be career ending. In Marine Corps officers passed over x times are booted out. Can't remember the number but its low. I would think the Navy is similar
