Looks like the dems got the numbers to filibuster. Oh well, shove it down their throats. Anyone who thinks they wouldn't do the same is kidding themselves. Hopefully we can get 2 more this presidential term.

The Reid or Nuclear option

Admittedly my understanding is very limited, but I don't like the sound of or proposed use of this "nuclear option". By either side. Seems like it is changing the rules for expediency. That should be illegal.
That said, if it means my kids my stand a chance of growing up in a nation where the Supreme Court is insulated from anti-American progressive judicial terrorists, then bring on the new rule book!

I think the Dems are making a big mistake. Since they have blocked Gorsuch from getting an up or down vote, the nuclear option will end fillibusters of Supreme Court nominees. So the next Trump nominee — even if that nominee is weaker than Gorsuch - can get confirmed by a simple majority. If the Dems were thinking ahead they wouldn't filibuster Gorsuch and retain that power for the next nominee. If that next nominee can't garner 100% support from Republicans (eg: Trump nominates his sister - or Judge Judy) they wouldn't have the votes for the nuke option at that time and a fillibuster could work.

Better question is whether a partisan filibuster has ever been used to prevent confirmation of a Supreme Court nominee. Answer is no.
*Press is quick to note that a filibuster was used one other time before involving a Supreme Court nominee: Abe Fortas in 1964, but that filibuster was comprised of a mixed coalition of democrats and republicans -- not a strictly partisan affair as is currently contemplated.

Exactly why reports made me think they would keep that option on deck for now. I guess they just plan to use some other option next time.

If there was an issue with Gorsuch I would not be in favor of doing this, but the Dems are not doing this on principle because they believe he is a bad judge. The biggest fight will be the next nominee- this one is replacing a conservative with a conservative so they will be back to where they were with Scalia. Here is what needs to happen- Bill O'Reilly or Tucker Carlson needs to get on the air one of the current 12 Senators that were in office when he was confirmed unanimously as an appellate court judge and to ask what has changed since then for them to not support him....other than the fact that Trump nominated him. He wrote opinions on an insane number of cases and 98% of his opinions were with the unanimous decision and the other two percent were with the majority opinion so obviously he is more than qualified.

But what is dumb is this:
Gorsuch gets the job
If the Dems filibuster
If the Dems don't filibuster
All it takes is 51 votes
They had 55 votes
Why force the nuclear option?
I wish they could stop arguing and get some work done
