As usual for some, if you question you're anti. Everyone so far has openly said in their posts they aren't anti police. Yes, the government has take some guns away. Fully auto and then during the Clinton ban, or am I hallucinating when I see my mags with over 10 rounds that say law enforcement only?

Blows my mind that some people think they are immune to everything because "by God we live in 'Merica!"

I think the issue with this isn't necessarily that LEO have this upgraded firepower, but the fear of what our admittedly corrupt government would try to do with a militarized policing force. We have seen it play out before, as LandRover said, in South Africa for example. My BIL is LEO, and in some sort of warrant/SWAT team and I'm glad he gets the gear he needs to come home safe. He's a marine and I know he would never follow orders to oppress the populace, but I am sure there is someone who would. Anyway, just my thoughts on it.

I just don't want my local law enforcement armed with weapons that myself and my fellow citizens cannot be armed with ourselves. I am all for LEO having the best stuff there is but I want to make sure the rules are as close to being equal as possible. I realize that 99% of the guys in blue are on "our" side but that won't make a hill of beans when that 1% happens.

I personally think you should be able to buy full auto without all the crap that you have to go through now and if I want to roll down the street in a MRAP I should be able to also. If my govt can roll down the street in up-armored vehicles, I think citizens should be able to tote all the 50cal API or Raufoss we can carry.

I'm not a tin-foil hat guy at all but when a govt agency has the tools to subjugate you, all it needs then are actors to actually do it. If their tools and my tools are the same, chances are we will get along much better.

            What weapons would those be?

I have been at it for more than 32 years and every firearm that I carry including 10 years on SWAT you can go to your local Academy and walk out with.

Why ridiculous? If you are saying we can never be equal then aren't you already admitting you are a subject that the govt just hasn't gotten around to subjugating yet?

TVC, you are correct that most everything local LEO's carry can be purchased by private citizens, at least here anyway. My statement was geared more toward those in states with different views towards our individual rights concerning liberty.

its probably not people like you that police worry about, but how can making body armor and "militarized vehicles" readily available to the public be good? not saying the big boys, cartels and criminal street gangs, don't have them or cant get them, but allowing billy the meth head access to them just to make it equal is not smart, IMO.

Body armor is already legal for citizens to have in a lot of states.

I never understood how it could be illegal. Just more stupid laws to break.

Those in power are not stupid. They know they just can't outright ban every gun. It's to much all at once. They will whittle away by banning one thing at a time then let the population get used to it then the next. Police will go right along with it as seen in the past.
You can blame Wal-Mart, sporting goods stores and manufacturers for doing their jobs. The gun dealers and stores followed the law on full auto weapons and magazine sales, it had nothing to do with police officers. I wasn't a cop back then and I was very upset that I couldn't replace my 30rd mag for my 10-22 but I didn't blame the local sheriff. You are an absurd man to imply that LEO's had anything to do with your inability to buy a high-cap mag and you are reaching just to be reaching. Further more, I have been a cop for 20 years and I would never stand against the rights of the citizens that I risk my life for everyday. If that day comes I will be right there with you guys to right the wrongs.

because laws affect more than just ol Billy.

Don't try and put words in my mouth. I never said police officers have anything to do with any gun ban, however where the rubber meets the road is if they would arrest someone for it, knowing it's in direct violation to the Constitution. My guess would be yes for the majority. I also don't believe there's going to be this massive war against the federal government over gun rights. The reason? Read my posts from above, they'll take a piece at a time so people don't freak out. The Clinton ban clearly shows this. To be honest I'm surprised there wasn't more back lash from it.

And your guess would be wrong. Local level cops will not turn on citizens.
