I think it's because people understand that our voting system is really, really stupid and we likely won't know the outcome for a few days.

Back to Chew's OP, today seemed to be a big sigh of relief. People were acting like people again. People were friendly again at the places I was at. I did encounter a service writer at the tire place I went to today that was not in a good mood. People seemed more relaxed in general.
