Trump VP?

Burgum is governor of ND. My sis-in-law lives there and doesn’t like him, but I think that’s because she works for the state and thinks he should fix every little problem. Hell, he probably doesn’t even know what those problems are. He got people for that, just like any other politician.
Gabbard has gun control issues.

There is only one reason to pick a vice president nominee. That is to get the presidential candidate elected. If the nominee doesn’t get elected, it doesn’t matter how good the losing vice presidential candidate would have been.
The vp has extremely limited constitutional power or authority. The Speaker of the House and Senate majority party leader have way more power. The vp official duties are to be available in case the president can’t act for whatever reason and to break a tie vote in the Senate. That’s it.
Does the vp’s policy opinions really matter?
Who will help Trump win, period?
Carson? Perhaps. With Trump seemingly doing very well among Black voters (according to some polls), Carson might pull another couple of percentage points. With his intelligent but boring manner, he might gain among some undecided voters who aren’t looking for a motivational speaker but rather a good potential policy adviser and replacement for the president if needed.
Ramaswamy? Certainly very dynamic and seems legitimate on issues. He would blow almost any debate candidate out of the water. He is from Ohio and it has mentioned that it is a critical swing state. But… he is not a Christian. I absolutely do not care but my vote isn’t up for grabs. Looking at past elections in this forum, I could just about guarantee that there are people who will not vote for Trump if he picks someone other than a Christian. Ramaswamy also is a vegetarian and doesn’t believe that people should kill animals for pleasurable eating. Will him being Hindu and not believing in killing animals to eat hurt Trump more than his debate skills and opinions will help? 😳
Tulsi Gabbard? She is certainly a tough debater, has served several years in the military (20+ and counting), served overseas, could potentially pull in a few supporters from her Democratic run for president and so on. But… like Ramaswamy, she is Hindu and a vegetarian or even vegan.
Obviously there are others.
Strangely, the two that seem to perhaps bring the best in debate and excitement that they may bring are both Hindu and at least vegetarian.
Will that hurt with voters more than they will help?
Anyway, I think the only thing that matters is who helps to win the election and not who would be a better president if needed, who may have the best policy opinions, etc.
If I was Trump then I would be having some serious and legitimate internal polling done from likely voters on who would give me the best chance to win. Unfortunately Trump has a way of going outside of logical thought on his picks and kind of goes against the grain. Let’s say that Trump’s own trusted pollsters said, candidate X will guarantee you the election. If Trump doesn’t like that person or thinks that person may upstage him in popularity, would he choose the guaranteed win? I doubt it. His ego will step in.
That’s a long winded way of saying, I have no clue who he would pick or off if any of those picks would help. I would like any of them and any would be way better than Biden or Harris.

should be taken into consideration at all in the decision for VP.

Then reality sets in. From reading in this and other forums in past elections, there is a perception of the public who will make their determination based on exactly that.
That is because there is a segment of society that thinks it should matter. Some are reading this thread.
My only question is whether the candidate helps more than hurts.

What about Joe Manchin ?
He dosen't seem too deep state.(old school democrat)
Too old to run in 2028 (enter Desantis)
Knows the democrats.(where the bodies are buried)
He definitely has some policy issues but he is not a full blown democrat anymore. (Some of Trumps old ideas are pretty (old school democrat).
I think he would bring in the moderates and independents
Just a thought
