when it comes to the VN pilots who were KIA, too many names on the wall that I flew with, including one of my roommates. Worst mission of my tour was flying Mike to the morgue after his ship crashed on a night search and rescue mission in bad weather.
Again. All hero’s. I got there when Saigon was in the process of falling. 19 years old and not even a year in the Marine Corps. And very few of those pilots had had any experience flying in those circumstances and with the heat and humidity. Not to mention flying with loads so heavy that a gunner and crew chief would literally run beside a chopper until airborne.
