    Arrow loose, but...

I shot this deer this morning and have been sick for the rest of the day. I found very little blood after what I thought was a good shot. The deer ran off with his tail tucked and seemed to give to his front left shoulder pretty good. Couldn't find my arrow.

I had to leave the lease, but I'll be back either late tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm about to start making tracking dog calls. What do you guys think? It's pretty tough to tell in low light.

Cant really tell, but looks and sounds like maybe a liver shot to me. What type and what color of blood did you find?

Also, lighted nocks are your friend

Man looks like he ducked a lil but it hit right above the shoulder. may have got a lung or two. What color was the blood? Bright or dark? I hope you find him bud. I know the feeling.

          Hope you find it.

Coming back in the morning to see if I can find the doe I shot this morning.

That's tough to tell. I doubt it was too far back if you didn't get a pass thru. I'm thinking high if anything from the video. Usually dont get too much blood on those high shots. As stated above the color of the blood could give you some more clues. Hope you find him. Best of luck.

Just what I was thinking. maybe into some of the strap meat a lil without hitting the spine. My dad hit a doe high this season complete passthough. Arrow smelled like meat but no blood.

After working with it a while, Im sure the arrow hit right on the joint of the shoulder. If you got enough penetration its a dead deer. It hit the largest bone up there though. Looks like the shooter was at a pretty different angle than the camera? Higher and to the left? If so, the deer was actually quartering to the shooter a little.

Blood was bright, but really thin. No puddles. Basically what little I found looked like it had been brushed off a leg, rather than drops or spray.

Yeah, this is the first year I haven't shot lit nocks. That'll change

I hoped you'd see this post. I saw him run off and the arrow was not visible on the left side at all. I almost think the shape of those ground blinds make the angle of the shooter look more extreme. The camera was on a tripod to my right, eye level, within arms reach, but it was in a different window.

It wasn't much, if any high. I tell where it impacted by the chunk of hair coming off. It is sure possible the arrow deflected slightly forward off that big bone. If the arrow didn't stop short, that's a dead deer.

I've talked to a couple of guys (TBH list) with dogs and they both say the same thing. With no more blood than I'm finding and trail contamination, there's a slim chance of success. So tomorrow I set out again on my own.

This is the set where I shot the deer. The red line is the property line/fence line, about 110yds from the feeder. The blue line is the trail he took with sparse blood. He got to the fence and paralleled it. You can see a slight jog behind the tank dam where he went around a mesquite. This was the third "decision" point for him to cross the fence, but he went around the mesquite instead. Right after that I found last blood.

Again, the red area is the property border. The green is the full area I have permission to search. I'll go back to last blood and see if there is any way possible to identify where he finally went left or right away from the fence line. Straight would have landed him in the neighboring rancher's back yard, so I know he turned somewhere. Left is basically a CRP pasture w/5yr growth. Right is a mesquite flat that's pretty dense. You can walk it, but you can't see through it.

                          Any ideas or tips????

Good luck on the recovery. Nice deer hopefully you caught some lungs and he's down pretty close. What broadhead were you using?
