Thanks you guys. Unfortunately I was not able to investigate very much. The birds had worked him over pretty well already. Did take a pic of the entrance hole. The exit side was pointed up and the birds messed up any chance of a good autopsy. Probably will mount this deer if for nothing else, the story and memories that I'll have from him.

So did you just look for buzzards or did you follow a blood/foot trail to him after it stopped at the neighbors property you were going to ask permission from?

I followed tracks yesterday evening to the neighboring property. It was a little too late to keep going after him. Got up this morning and saw the birds back there and went to the property and got permission to go in and he was right there. Maybe 200-300 yards from the property line.
