    Lets play...NAME....THAT....SHEEP!!!!!

This hunting story starts as many do.....getting a kitchen pass. I was granted permission to attend this hunt in lieu of going to Texas for a week since my wife is just about to pop out our first baby .

I stated my trek at 11PM after working a full day and donating blood earlier on Thursday, the 13th. I was dead tired. I also used the excuse of breaking in my wife's new jeep right as a debating point for permission to go. I reached the ranch in Cali at 3:30 AM and made my way to the cabin. It seems every mouse on that ranch wanted to be in that cabin that night, so needless to say I didn't go to sleep until after 4. A short time later the alarm rang and I was up and at it. I awoke to the sun breaking over the hills and a rather warm breeze hitting my face. It was colder in the cabin than outside.

I got dressed, strung my bow, and packed some water and was at it. There was an unusual white blob walking down a canyon side I would see a good 600 yards away. I took a quick gander with my binos and saw this guy. He looked good but I wanted to try to get a better view of what was roaming the hills.

After several failed stalks....I BUMPED a huge corsican. I mean gold medal no problem ram. Huge heavy horns and lots of curl. Now I had a choice to make. I decided to keep trying this ram due to the unusual style.

I made my way to the top of the hill he was at. There were several good rams running with him including a four horn and silver black hawaiian. I slipped to within range but they were bunched up on a cliff side. I got a good position and they climbed by me. I couldn't get a shot I was comfortable with. The made it to some brush and I knew it was now or never. I ran( downhill and trying to keep control) into a canyon. They were on the opposite side and I knew they wouldn't be there when I creased. I knocked an arrow and slowly made my way up on my knees.

NO WAY!!!! I thought. They were still there and he was broadside at 25 yards. I drew back and let her fly. The hit was thru the front shoulder into the bone and past it. There was a massive amount of blood coming out and he layed down after running a good 40 yards. I made my way closer and he got up. I got another arrow in him nice and tight behind the shoulder and called it good. I made my way back to camp for breakfast and help.

The ram made it into a crevace and wedged himself in. When we came up on him he was still alive (an hour later). We did what we had to do and brought in the ATV to help get him out.

Another fun adventure and I had a drive back to do. I just finished butchering him up after leaving him to age for a few days on ice.

I'd like to thank my unofficial and totally pretend sponsors :

Ron Meloni for the arrows and broadheads.
    thedosranchhand for the bow
    Columbia Sportswear for the gear
    Under Armour for the undies
Jeep for the fun ride to, from, and around the ranch
    Big Horn Canyon Ranch
my wife for the endless supply of sandwiches during the trip
    and many many others!

Incredible all-Traditional kill. I take it you're pleased with the arrows. I really wish they were a little heavier and I would have kept them. Building them though was a BLAST. Enjoy and thanks for the update.

                    Take care,

By the way, beautiful country. Must have been a great hunting experience in such surroundings. And also, congratulations on the soon-to-be lil' hunter. Your life's about to change more than you know, and only for the better. Rest now.

Wow! I really want to kill something with a stone point one day. I have a few points but have not got brave enough to try it yet.

                          Congrats on your ram,

                          Bisch
