I always passed em up cause was waiting for a big whitetail buck and they all looked like these. Since beginning season they have came and went so finally decided to take that first one cause I wanted some meat and the does eluded me. The next day I stuck that 2nd buck cause he was shot in the back leg and it looked awful. You cant tell in the pic but he was skinny compared to the first one. His whole leg shriveled up. I'm all about letting them grow but I've seen lots of ones like this and always let em walk. We have no limits on axis and are supposed to be taking them on sight for the TPW management program. I hope some of those that walked during early season show up again.
I am not tryn to judge but I could not agree with you more. Sometimes it for the sake of the animal over letting him grow some antlers. And if you wanted the meat so be it. good choice imo

I shot a doe once that I really didn't need the meat off of but she had a busted up front leg so bad I felt she needed to be put down. So I took her to a buddy who was unable to hunt that year and he kept the meat.

                              axis

Congrad's. Not everybody is that fortunate to have a shot on an Axis. From what I've been told by some of the TPW guy's the free ranging Axis population has exploded in the Hill Country area. It's becoming a problem for some. This year (2010 season) I plan on helping to harvest some myself.
