You are correct, AK-47 "style" (taken from your link) type weapons do not require a Class III license.

Sorry, but it's not simply semantics... they are designated AK-47 rifles. Please see this link for reassurance... this is just one example. There are many designated AK-47 rifles as shown on the link...

Just FYI, these rifles are listed as AK-47s for the BATFE, obviously the governing body of firearms in the US.
