Since nobody else has mentioned them , I will recommend Nikon Monarch or Vortex.

I went to buy binocs with $300 also. I came home with Alpen binocs, I could not tell a significant clarity difference versus the Nikon Monarchs, and I saved about $140.
However, Nikons rifle scopes are the best I have ever seen.

Being different will only get you disappointed... Vortex or Nikon then check Vortex again.

I recommend the Leupold Windriver Cascade 10x42.... I have a pair and know of friends that sat down their Leica's for them.

X2 Put them up against my father in law's Swarovski's and there was a difference only in the last 10 minutes of the day. They are the best glass for the money IMO

Steiners 8x30 work great for bowhunting, might be a little light for rifle.

X3 I have the Nikon Monarch 8X42 and they are hard to beat for @$300. For about $100 a pair of Leupold Yosemite in 6X30 or 8X30 are a good deal as well. Smaller but I have them and they are me carry set most of the time, prefer 6X30.
