Thanks guys I knew i could count on the experience and smarts of my fellow tbhers. I went to cabelas and bought a tru ball diamond pro extreme.
Here it is
I shoot a back tension release almost daily. It is second nature to me to shoot a back tension release. Would I hunt with one. No.
You need to be able to "command" your release in a hunting situation. If your shooting a true back tension release properly you will not know the exact moment that it will fire. It most hunting scenarios you do need to know the exact instant the release will fire. For example....when the animal turns broadside or his vitals clear a tree. The Pro Diamond mentioned is a thumb trigger but its not a back tension release. It actually has a lot of trigger travel. The jaws open in realtion to how much the trigger travels. I am not saying this is bad. It is a thumb trigger release that is designed for hunting.
With a thumb trigger you can fire them using back tension or you can command the shot. For hunting purposed I would always use a release that I could command the shot when needed.
thats why i like the carters. the pro diamond will feel like it is moving in your hand due to the travel, the carters break at a certain poundage every time
I shoot a tru ball BT in the spring and summer months, and even thought about hunting with it this year. However, I realized what Arrowsmith said above and hunt with a tru ball traill boss.
