Get one to practice with to get rid of your target panic.I wouldn't hunt with one.you can try a hand held release if you like the feel, after you get rid of the panic.

I would not use one for hunting. I would practice with one for sure to get rid of target panic but when it comes to hunting I need the power to see when it is going to shoot.

stuntrider, I had the same problem w/ target panic that started w/ one arrow and could never seem to shake it after that. Give a TRU Ball Pro Diamond a try, completely fixed my target panic problems. i have yet to have any type of target panic w/ this release and feel very comfortable w/ it.

That TP can be very nerve racking and expensive!

I would stay away from it hunting simply due to the adrenaline during that critical need for steady solid anchor time.

I have hunted with a Loesch True Back Tension release for several years now... and love it! I will never go back to a regular release. I have used both the hand held and wrist strap versions...I prefer the wrist strap.

                  Best of luck,
                  Staten

i forgot about loesch, i have hunted with their jackrabbit which is awesome cuz of its almost infinite tension adjustability, the TBT is a great release as well. not to mention the owner James i think? is a stand up guy and really stands behind his product

Nothing wrong with hunting with a back tension release. With practice you know a window when its going to go off, and if you're shooting any other release properly you don't know exactly when they are going off either. There's some really cool new ones that actually work hydraulically based on pull poundage. For starters try a Thumb Release and learn to shoot it using "back tension." I overhauled my shooting fundamentals a few years ago and it was night and day. Biggest helpers for me were a book.... which I don't even remember the name of now, and a DVD made by a Texas 3-D shooter, who sadly I cant remember the name of either right now. Both sources had a lot of good information on shooting with back tension without using a BT release. If you're interested let me know and I'll go dig through the closet and get you the names. Or someone else here might know them.

I switched from a wrist strap to a thumb release a few tears ago and it was the best move I could have made. Really improved my grouping. I started with an FS 'Cuda that I still have as a backup. I currently use a TRU Ball Sabretooth. I really like the "hook" type releases over the caliper. It is so much quicker and easier to hook to your D-Loop or string and I believe it gives you a "cleaner" release. Carter makes some great releases but they are a little more pricey.

Yeah, The TRUBALL PRO DIAMOND is a thumb release and I love it, very adjustable aslo even though I didn't have to mess w/ mine. I paid $65 tmyd from archerytalk classifieds and it was brand new in package, saved alot of money as they are like $129 at the retail stores. Good luck bud.

I shoot a back tension release almost daily. It is second nature to me to shoot a back tension release. Would I hunt with one. No.

You need to be able to "command" your release in a hunting situation. If your shooting a true back tension release properly you will not know the exact moment that it will fire. It most hunting scenarios you do need to know the exact instant the release will fire. For example....when the animal turns broadside or his vitals clear a tree. The Pro Diamond mentioned is a thumb trigger but its not a back tension release. It actually has a lot of trigger travel. The jaws open in realtion to how much the trigger travels. I am not saying this is bad. It is a thumb trigger release that is designed for hunting.

With a thumb trigger you can fire them using back tension or you can command the shot. For hunting purposed I would always use a release that I could command the shot when needed.
