    Yep.

At one point, back in the 80s, early mid 90s, I would guess prior also, they really did not enforce it much. When they finally started enforcing it more often, I think early 2000s, a lot of people got upset over it.

Like they used to not enforce the front plate law, I guess they did not inspect the vehicle being used for the driving test prior to someone taking a driving test. That I don't know if it was required years ago or if the officers did not bother with it. I know when I took my driving test and when a girl I knew back in high school took her test, the DPS officer did not inspect the car. But years later when I took my test for my motorcycle license, that DPS officers, who is female, did inspect my bike. At the time, I did not know they ever did such a thing. Then the only thing she got me for on that test, was not using my turn signal in the parking lot, as I was going towards the exit. Even when changing direction in a tiny DPS parking lot you have to use your turn signal.

Been the law forever. I had to zip-tie my son's plate to his Chevy Cruze's grill.

How about the new law? No inspection stickers as of Jan 1, 2025. Wait for all the junk on the road after that.

This has always been my thought with front plate. Popo didn't have radar gun on, but clearly the car was speeding, or driving erratically. No front plate is an excuse to stop them.

Which I feel like there is enough excuses to stop someone anyways these days. You were swerving. I thought I saw a cell phone in your hand. Driving over the limit. Under the limit. In the left lane. Impeding traffic. Your tire looked low, I wanted to let you know.

When I went to take my driving test, my Dad had a dealer license for selling cars and all of our cars had Dealer Plates on them. During the mid-80s, you only got one Dealer Plate per license plate number, so one plate per car.

The car I took to test in had just the one plate on the back, and the Trooper said I had to have two plates. My Mom tried to explain that we only had one plate on all of our vehicles since they were owned by the "dealership", and since the State didn't issue two plates, it was impossible for us to have a front plate. Trooper said he didn't care, car had to have two plates!

We had to borrow a car from my Grandmother to take take the test.

I also got pulled over a few years later in Robstown for not having a front plate. The Sheriff's Deputy actually wrote the ticket for no front plate, even though I had the one Dealer Plate on the back. First and only time I've ever seen a traffic ticket torn up after I asked if he thought that ticket would stand up in court when I told him that's where I would fight it. He left pretty mad...

It's the law but there is 0% chance I would drill into my luxury sports car to install one. Rather pay the ticket from time to time.

When I was 20 I got pulled over for No license plate on the front. Ended up in jail for a whole weekend for insufficient insurance

I got stopped 3 times in one day on a trip from Austin to Dallas several years ago. Received 2 warnings, bought a license plate holder and installed it in Autozone's parking lot. At the time there was no fine for not having it but the law said you had to have it.

They can allegedly put a man on the moon but can't put license plate holders on the front of some models of vehicles. Perfect PC, used it many times, never ever wrote a ticket for it.
