I know for a fact mine was scanned from behind me at least once. Got pulled over and checked for current proof of insurance because the discount company my wife had us on at the time hadn’t updated our policy renewal in the database they can access.
Patrolman told me it happens on occasion and to just call the insurance company and have them update our info.

I got a truck camper that covers my back plate. When we go on a trip I normally take off my camper if I am staying more than one night. So to keep from taking off the plate and moving it from truck to camper, I take the front plate off and put it on the back of the camper. Most states I travel in only use one plate anyway. One day it will catch up to me.

I was also pulled over on the South Sam Houston Toll Road in 2014 for driving a “stolen truck”, that I had bought brand new in April 2004 and had title for in my safe for several years. Thing is, I previously had custom plates on that truck and was in the process of putting it up for sale.
The replacement plates I got at the annex when making the change had the same number as a car reported as stolen in Pennsylvania. That was fun, and about half an hour of my life I’ll never get back while they were sorting it all out.
Different vehicle all together, plate number in the window tag matched the actual license plates, etc. that was one hell of a way to make sure I was awake between 4-4:30 AM while trying to go to work.

I'm not against having the law, but it's irritating how selectively enforced this law is; especially in major metro areas. I know in Houston, probably 1 in 20 vehicles don't have one so it's rather obvious it's not being enforced. It's also not just Teslas and sports cars, I see a fair amout of pickup trucks without them as well.

It was definitely illegal 20 years ago. My brother was headed to see us at the lake one 4th of July. Got pulled over for no front license plate. Went to jail for a BUNCH of outstanding tickets. He had all the fireworks and booze in his car. I’ll need to remind him of this on this years 4th. Lol!

Oh…and I was a 12 yr city kitty prior…total LE time headed into year 31…
And yes the front LP is required where intended to be. Not in the front windshield or dash…that’s an Improperly Placed LP
