I need some computer tech help

I have a older MAC laptop that has worked flawlessly with no viruses. Suddenly, a few weeks ago, I started getting popups in the upper right of my screen with different messages implying that I have a virus. They pop up every 5 minutes or so and then disappear quickly before I can even take a photo of them. I finally left my phone on, in the camera setting and got several shots of them. I have NOT clicked on them. Anybody know how I can stop this madness?

There are several other suspicious messages, but I haven’t been fast enough to get a picture of them before they disappear.

I'd run some basic anti-virus programs. Not sure about MACs but for Windows there are dozens of free ones.

If it was mine I'd run malwarebytes

I didn’t think an Apple product could be hacked unless you were on a public wifi.

That's what I thought; don't know what id going on, but I will not click on thst message. I think I downloaded the Malwarebytes but having trouble determining if it has scanned.

Disconnect from Wi-Fi and all other network connection types.

Back up your data to a jump drive or two, while you can, and then reset to factory.

Once that is all done and before restoring data, update all BIOS/firmware and OS, get a reputable anti-virus one year subscription and then restore data.

This is what I would do to start. I have been in the IT industry for 20 years.

                          Good luck.

                            Unfortunately, not the case anymore.
