Start a skilled trade business if you really want to make money and one day run a multimillion dollar business.

Plumbing is the single largest lacking trade...look in to it. Starting would be tough as an apprentice, but 10-15 years from know, you would be a millionaire if you have the drive to run a business.

I appreciate it everyone, I’ve given it about 2 years since the acquisition and it have just not shown signs of improvement. I get 25 days vacation, paid salary good benefits and I still struggle with working there. I’m being told how to do my job that I’ve been doing for the past 6 years, that coupled by a shady HR manager really makes a change sound great. I’m looking around at options, without a major pay cut. I’m really interested in the FD just not sure where to start.

Look for departments hiring in your area. Some may pay for fire school. If that doesn’t work you can do it online nowadays or join an academy. Takes about 6 months or it did 15 or so years ago. FYI many departments in Texas require you to also be EMT certified and run an ambulance as well. Make sure that’s what you
really want before joining a department that does.

FD is a goodun'! Just start diggin' and see who's hiring. See what their requirements are then take their test and jump in the process. Ain't gonna get rich but it beats a real job! I know several guys that make as much or more with their side hustle doing all kinds of stuff.

Lots of good advice here. Wish someone would have told me this stuff at 26, and more importantly I listened.

I am into 20 years with a mfg. company/career and the Fortune 100 company that owns it is driving into the ground as fast as possible.

You’re on the right track asking for advice. You gotta start your own gig to make big money or chose to make enough money and live how you want to live. Keep your bills low (hard to do now a days) and that will allow you to keep your freedom. You really just have to find something you don’t hate or even better enjoy and get good at it. Pray a lot. Be good to everyone around you, meet as many people as possible, and recognize opportunities when they come.

you have your whole life left in front of you.

Line something else up and make the move before you find yourself locked in the corporate bs prison.

This is what I’m trying to get away from. It’s degrading for sure.

They work 7 shifts a month, constantly go fishing and hunting, and have a really good pension that guarantees their retirement.

I would also recommend HVAC. But so much depends on which segment you want to do and which company you start with. There are plenty of bad ones out there.

Honestly the hardest people to find right now are plumbers. We have so much work that our plumbing dept could quadruple in size tomorrow and they would all still be busy. The downside is that you are forced to work your way up the ladder at the pace the regulations allow.

We can’t find/hire good plumbers to save a life. Where is everyone?!
