    New Career Search

Good evening, unfortunately I have made the tough decision to start looking for a new job, I’m currently 26 and have worked the same job since 2015 which is manufacturing supervision, I have enjoyed my time with the company until recently. The company was bought about by a big corporation and is has been down hill since, I have tried to keep an open mind and even change my personal work to align with the companies but it just isn’t working. I will be losing some great benefits but it’s time for a change. I currently live in the Mineral Wells area and would like to hear if anyone knows of some opportunities or recommended career paths.

    Thanks in advance.

Learn a skilled trade and write your own ticket. Get good enough at that skill and every day you will choose when you work, who you work for, how long or short your hours will be, etc.

Lineman. Hard work but you can go anywhere with it. You'll be a grunt the first few years but then as you move up the money gets pretty dang good. I'm not one but work around them all the time.

How long has it been bad? My company had a similar situation play out, but I gave it 4 years of suck before I gave in.

I wouldn't bail after a couple rough months. There is always growing pains, and maybe the company who bought you all out can get it straightened out.

My advice, give yourself a year. Looking for a new job is rough, and you really need an in at a lot of places if you don't want to start at the bottom again.

              Good luck!

Deffiantly do not quit till you have something else lined up.

Second thing, the grass an't always greener. I'm in agreement with some of the suggestions above, give it some time especially if there is additional opportunity for you at the current job.

Even though I'm in HVAC and make considerably more than them, I constantly envy the several friends I have that work in the San Antonio FD. They are in EMS now. They work 7 shifts a month, constantly go fishing and hunting, and have a really good pension that guarantees their retirement.

I would also recommend HVAC. But so much depends on which segment you want to do and which company you start with. There are plenty of bad ones out there.

Honestly the hardest people to find right now are plumbers. We have so much work that our plumbing dept could quadruple in size tomorrow and they would all still be busy. The downside is that you are forced to work your way up the ladder at the pace the regulations allow.

Man I could use a young 26 year old with decent mechanical skills and common sense. You could work 6-7 days a week 90-100 hours a week.

Medical field, or first responder like has been stated. I would definitely stick with your current job while training for something else. Worth it in the end.
