Haven't heard of green grape pie outside of northern Milam County. Used to have it every 1st Saturday in May at the cemetery working.

Not sure what a brine would be used for, so no. No fish sauce. Just berries, sugar, water and yeast. Also lots of honey in the mead.

Nope. First the slurry of skins, seeds and other berry solids are mixed with water, some sugar and yeast. Then it sits for a few months with a nice shake a few times a day. Eventually everything ferments and makes alcohol. Then the alcohol turns to vinegar.

Like this only with the leftovers from straining out all the good juice instead of whole berries.

The dewberries at my lease are barely budding out now. I saw a bunch of marble-sized green ones this weekend, but nothing even close to ready for picking.

Thanks for sharing this video. It was great and I learned something! After a months long absence, we are headed out to our place near Lexington where, hopefully, I’ll be able to harvest a few dewberries. If I do, I might just have to try my hand at vinegar!

I recommend it. Homemade blackberry vinaigrette with pecans on salad is awesome!

All Dewberries are Blackberries but not all Blackberries are Dewberries. There are vast numbers of Blackberry species.

In NWA you plant after Mother’s Day, it’s weird because we’re usually planting after Easter.

Here is 4 1/2 pounds that I picked yesterday. I just got back from picking 5 1/2 pounds today.

I also spotted my next picking target. As soon as they ripen up I will be busy again. These are probably mustang grapes.

After looking them up it turns out they are true muscadine grapes. WooHoo!

Anyone have any they want to sell? I am craving dewberry cobbler. They are not down here in South Texas that I have seen.

true about the multiple species on Blackberries.

I did not know dewberries were Blackberries...interesting.

Still green here. Usually bout the second week of May. Good Huntin, and God Bless, Rusty
