    Dewberries are Ripe

Went out Saturday and picked 4 quarts +/- and they aren’t really at their peak yet. Rain last week and some sunny days will do the trick.

My wife just had me helping her walk through the tall grass in snake infested central texas to pick $5 worth of dewberries. She looks forward to dewberry season every year.

Wow, the snow has just melted here. My black berries haven't even started to bud. Can't see anything.

I was looking for some today and couldn't find any. I did have a piece of green grape pie last week that was just unbelievable. I got the recipe, now I just need to find some dewberries

I looked for dewberries Sunday and none was to be found, been too dry. No sand plums either.

Saw a bunch Saturday when we were fishing lake Houston. Only accessible by boat and they were almost ready.

I dun got lazy! My blackberries are coming in now too... One of my blackberries is bigger than 4 dewberries, no stickers and no crawling around in tall grass dodging copperheads and such... picked these this morning. Will pick again tomorrow... They will bare until early Winter...

It will still be awhile until they’re ready up here. I feel like I see less of them & less muscadines these days. I know bears get in the berry patches so that’s probably it.

You pickled your blackberries? I'm very intrigued by this.

Dewberries or blackberries. I'm not sure which but I have picked over 40 pounds of them! I have a five gallon carboy filled with over 20 pounds for blackberry wine and a one gallon working on blackberry mead. There are over ten pounds de-seeded and pureed in the freezer ready for whatever. The seeds and skins were put in a one gallon to become blackberry vinegar.

My hands feel like they have a thousand papercuts and may be permanently purple but it was worth it. I only came across a few snakes including one very cranky rat snake.

Do you use fish sauce in your brine?
