ok guys, I am new on here but my well trained eye and my skilled field training as a certified registered and calibrated snake-ologist tells that what you have there is the all elusive "Rattleheadedcoppermossikeen" beware of this animal.......

Agreed. Very well could have been a baby water moccasin.

If in doubt look at its tail. If it is green its poisonous. I believe it goes for all except coral snakes. This comes from a snake expert that was brought out to our plant to help identify snakes.

That's a copperhead. Down here where I am, we see them from brown/brownish red to almost greyish brown.

This is kind of a moot point, copperhead or cottonmouth will both put a hurtin' on ya that ends in a ginormous ER bill.

I believe it is a juvi cottonmouth. I came face to face with one a little bigger than that when Hunter and I were spotlighting for crawfish in the ditch. He popped his head up out of the water right as I was reaching down to catch a crawfish.

Did you reach out and pluck its eye out with your lightning strike?!

I'm no snake expert but it looks close to a rat snake as well. Check out the pic.
