Looks like a rat snake, don't think copperheads have broken rings like that one does.

It's a copperhead for sure,have killed plenty of them. grass snakes don't have fangs or vertical slits for pupils. Too dark to go out and get the head right now:

do copperheads really exist? i mean we think we see them but only turn out to be a different snake... almost like the black panther...
