my first day was supposed to be 8-5. 2 inmates crossed the trinity river. at 4:45 all the internal gates closed. worked inside till 9. Was put on a truck and dropped off along the river...somewhere. I was lucky. I had a .38 with bullets and a flash light that worked.(1978)

all along the river the dang gars were slaping the surface of the water scaring the crap out of me.
3:00 in the morning I heard rustling and it was getting closer. at 10 feet, I shined the light with one hand and had the gun in the other. Dang armadilla walking through. If it was white, would have been a different story. Dogs found the guys later that day. I was 21.

Spent the night in the Reynosa jail back in HS.

HS buddy did a week in Matamoras for assaulting the son of a local politician/judge. He did not fare well. His parents also had to pay a tidy sum for his release.

Never been and don't have any intention of going

Made it just shy of being booked into the county jail in high school. Got out with a ticket (written inside the jail) and managed to have that thrown out. GW stayed mad at me until he retired but I never let him catch me breaking any game laws the rest of his career.
That experience was enough for me
