Our freedom ranger meat chickens are en route to centerville as we speak. I hope they all survive the journey.

i have ordered chicks of all breeds from Ideal Hatchery in Cameron, Tx for years,

          Never a problem.

If you want a quick start, Wabash Feed Store in Houston usually has a fair selection of the common breeds of 4-5 month old pullets for about $20-25 each

My daughter has an incubator full of eggs right now. I think they are due to hatch on the 7 of April. She might have some chicks right now. I'll check with her.

                      Bantams or banty

I bought a doz once, think I got 9 roosters and 3 hens when they grew up
English Game, roosters were constantly fighting and attacking kids and hawks took them out first because they were so much smaller than the other chickens I guess

I have always had great luck with McMurray hatchery. Not super cheap with shipping but always great quality.

My wife is getting into selling our eggs to people that want to hatch them. We have Rhode Island Reds and Red Sexlinks. We currently have around 60 hens and the Sexlinks are my favorite. They produce all the time and they are the most loving chickens I have ever had. Pretty much every one of them come up to us and want to be either pet or picked up.
