    Skunk repellent?

How do I deter skunks around my house. I live in the city and have skunks from time to time. Last night I woke up to the smell of a skunk, and no it's not pot. Some years I've pulled 5 or 6 dead skunks from my pool. I don't have any dogs or cats.

You might call City of Richardson Animal Control.

I assume you have a fence around your yard. How are they getting in?

You may want to hire a trapper. I have to wonder if they have a den very near.

Pet alligator in your pool should work.

Skunks are fairly easy to trap. Sardines will get em every time. They will curl up and go to sleep after it gets daylight. Sneak up and put a suppressed 22lr in the back of their head right at the base of the skull so the body is paralyzed and they don't raise their tail and release the perfume. Place trap at curb and call animal control. Tell em you have no idea how it died.
You can also bury them in your yard and pour quick lime over them to kill the odor. Plant a rose bush over them.

The last time I trapped a skunk and called animal control, the animal control guy got sprayed. Yes fence around the yard, but there are spots they could crawl under.

It's the skunk rut. Those nasty things are everywhere. Get a pellet gun man. Shoot those suckers. Just be quiet about it. Nobody will even know. Hopefully they'll run off and die in other people's yards. If there's any noise complaints just say "yeah I've heard that too. Weirdest thing, I've seen dead skunks laying around the neighborhood. Wonder if someone's shootin them?"

You could make you a kill pole so the skunks won't spray after you catch them. It's a syringe filled with acetone on the end of the conduit of your choice. Jab them with that and they'll die without the stink. No noise involved.

Just get a live trap, bait it with cat food, put the food in a mesh of some type, to hold the food, but let the smell easily emit from it. Make a small bag of the cat food from whatever you choose to use as a mesh. Tie it up, then tie the bag to the trigger, so when they try to move the bag, it trips the door. Done this a few hundred, maybe a few thousand times.

Before you do this, tie a rope or cord about 30 ft. maybe 40 ft. long to one end of the trap, so you can drag it to some place to kill the skunk. You being in the city, just set the trap up somewhere away from your house, away from the neighbor's houses. So when you catch one, just shoot it where it is, the dump the skunk into a garbage bag and haul it off. A pellet gun will work fine.

Like okrattler said, this is skunk mating season, they are going to be out and about a lot right now. They will be out in large numbers at night fogging up the area, trying to attract females. I assume it's the males doing all the spraying. Where we used to live, was skunk courtship central, they would fog the pasture up and our back yard up, every night. That smell would get into everything in the house, this time of year.

Your best route is to prevent them from getting in. How big is the fenced yard?

I think they are coming out of their breeding season. I have not had them spraying by my house in the last week so I assume it is almost if not over already in my area. Good luck lol
