Nilgai Shoulder Mount Going Rate & Recommendations

Hunting the King Ranch soon. Don't want to get the cart before the horse, but would like to have a plan in case I end up with one I want to put on the wall.

My local Taxidermist, who I like but aren't necessarily tied to, quoted $1500 for a shoulder mount. He's never done one, but he also never disappoints in quality of work.

If the need arises, I'll probably just have him do it, unless the going rate is $1000 or so and getting it shipped is $100 or something. Having it 1/2 hour way does sound better than having it many hours away.

Anyway, am I on the right track or can I do a lot better?

    Thanks!

Since you are hunting the King, just take it to Hibler in Kingsville. They have to be the best on Nilgai since they do so many. No idea of price, but I would be hesitant to have someone that has never done one learn on mine for $1500!!! Call them and see what they have to say about price and shipping.

Meant to add that I did contact Hiblers (email) and they never replied - which is always a turn off. Guess I need to call them instead.

I used Ottea here in San Antonio. Mount came out great. I think they charge 1100 now but could be less. I did pay less for mine but that was last year prices.

That's funny. Maybe they do the "best" (I doubt it) but just because they do a lot doesn't mean they do the best or even do above average. There's only one pic on their website and it does look like a quality job.

$1350 is what charge for a shoulder mount. $1500 for a wall ped. Shipping will be well north of $100, more like $350-$400 minimum. If you are happy with your taxidermist I would just use him..
What some call quality isn't quality at all.. And just because a shop mounts a bunch of a particular species doesn't mean diddly..

Shipping on one that size will kick your rear.

Hiblers does good taxi work but i gotta say... dropped off an oryx with them a few years back and got back less meat than you would off a hill county whitetail doe. I was piiisssstttt. You gotta watch them on the meat.
