I remember getting some in college with a buddy in his dad's fields and asking him if we were getting crawfish in his dad's fields why were we going at night? He never missed a beat and said he would shoot at us same as everybody else!

I think that's the only time I went crawfishing with him!

Everything is up in price. My customers ask why my prices went up and I tell them to match everything else. I gotta pay more for eating and it costs you more to feed me.

Yep, mom & sis had some last weekend. My mom said they were almost $8 per pound, which is shocking in NOLA area but as noted prices drop as the season kicks into high gear. As many here, I could care less what they cost.......it is worth it!!! May do a half sack this weekend during football games........ALL MINE!!!

Farmers were sometimes paid 25 cents per pound at times during the 1990s and often were only allowed to sell 2 to 3 days a week due to supply gluts at times. Retail prices were often only 10 cents higher.

A fun fact: "Commercial sales of crawfish in Louisiana began in the late 1800s. At that time, crawfish were harvested from natural waters through-out the southern region of the state. The first record of a commercial crawfish harvest in the United States was in 1880. That year, a harvest of 23,400 pounds was recorded, with a value of $2,140. By 1908, a U.S. Census report listed Louisiana’s crawfish production at 88,000 pounds, with a value of $3,600."

I don't know how the dollar conversion from that time error would compare to prices today, but 4 to 9 cents per pound is a long ways from $7+ per pound.

The fun fact is awesomeness! My great grandparents & grandparents were part of the local unaccounted poundage's as it was part of survival living on a plantation until the early 1980s in St. James Parish.
