    Old fellas and feeders question

Anyone have an old tree branch feeder from the 80’s laying around?
5gallon can with a branch sticking out the bottom?

I don’t have one but my dad had a few before spin cast feeders were a thing. I think he called them bump feeders

Broom stick or dowel rod with a hole drilled in it to slide a bolt through to keep it in the
5 gallon bucket is all you need. I used them for years. I also had some from Moultrie like the one pictured above.

You gotta put screws on each side of the stick to keep it from falling out. Thats why y'all shiat never works very long.

We had a few that had a cone shaped aluminum piece that had the hole through it. All thread through the cone. The all thread was probably 24” long, had a cedar branch attached to the bottom so wind would move it around a little and drop corn. You could adjust the cone in the hole to let out more corn or less. Simple system with a lot of memories for me

No screws needed if you put a washer and nut on each side the small bolt that goes through the wooden dowel rod. Or, you can do it like PePaw here

Some folks would put an old can on the end of the stick so the corn would trickle onto the can and make noise.

They are excellent for scouting new hunt areas

I hang them high where only bigger deer can bump them. Does will get on hind legs to bump them, but some giant hogs will leap and pull them down if you hang them too low. They feed 24/7 so a buck can come and go to feed as he pleases, with no crowd like with a timed spin feeder. Silent so other hunters are not alerted to its presence, no feeder pen needed.

I had many of them back in the day. I then upgraded to the old ontime that used all of the AA batteries. While I like all of my 12 volt feeders now the old ontime ones were ****ed good timers.

The ones I made were kind of like this except we used old wooden tops and built wind vanes for the bottom for the wind to move it.

we used to have one still hanging.

Let me see if it is still there.
