I had a Nissan Frontier a few years ago that pulled pretty good. Had a 6,500 pound RV behind it once and towed it from Baton Rouge to Farmersville. It had the power to do 75(I kept it at 65 though) and had zero issues stopping the weight without any brake fade, even when I tried to get the brakes to fade. This was with the older 4.0 v6 and 5 speed auto transmission.

Go down to the Florida Keys….you will see all kinds of large boats being pulled by Jeeps, Tacomas, Rangers and small SUV’s. But, the speed limit there is around 45-55 mph depending where you are at and tow distances are short.
There is pulling a boat and then there is pulling a boat….what a lot of guys tell you about pulling a boat with a smaller rig is they are limited to 55 mph-60mph max on flat ground.
If your driving short distances, a smaller platform will be fine. But if your routinely running distance at highway speeds you may want to consider that.

I lived about a mile from the boat ramp and my Tacoma pulled my skeeter 250 just fine.
I would not have wanted to pull it hundreds of miles. It would pull it 75 miles an hour but it was wrapped up pretty tight doing it.
