Smallest vehicle to pull with

I have a 2012 Ford Diesel. I now live minutes from boat ramp and soon will have boat in lift on water. I will obviously need to pull it from time to time and drive it a short distance. Longest would be coastal storms and maybe pull it 75 miles max. Boat probably 4500 pounds. I just have no use for a tow vehicle anymore. Will a 6 banger pull this setup? I know I’ll feel it- But will it be able to handle the limited towing I’m considering. I know specs say yea but looking for real life experience.

6 banger what? My son old 1994 dodge Dakota with a 6 cylinder would struggle. My 2022 F-150 powerboost pulls my 5,000 tractor on a 2,500 trailer with no issues at all.

I may have read your post as a 2021 diesel and not 2012. I would think you would be fine. They used those truck to hall big trailers full of hey. Or cattle trailers with multiple cows.

6 cylinder covers a lot of territory. You could probably tow a #4500 boat with just about any pickup made in the last 20 years. You are good.

I would suggest 4wd if you go to a smaller vehicle.

I have had both a dodge Dakota and Taco pulling a 24 ft Boston whaler , I was 100% ok doing 50-200 mile trips when needed

My wife's Colorado pulls our boat and/or our camper between SA and Amistad and SA and POC all the time, no issues and pulls PDG too.

6 banger would pull it. The only caution is if launching at a boat ramp, the weight of the tow vehicle might not be enough to pull the boat out of the water. Compact pickup like a tacoma is probalby fine, but I was thinking something more like a Jeep or small SUV.

During hurricanes I have helped many a 2wd up a wet ramp with a chain to clear out the ramp

I watched some youtube videos a couple years back out of Australia. Those boys towed their offshore boats with little rinky dink trucks. They'd beach and ramp launch.

the turbo diesel on those hilux and some of the other rigs out there are ****** though. I wish we could get em here

According many of here, you need a 4x4 3/4 ton diesel to pull a lawn mower.
