How to get rid of rotten meat smell?

Kids accidentally unplugged my freezer and lost all my meat. It was rank so I plugged it back in and refroze it. I finally cleaned it out tonight for the most part. But the bottom was solid ice and we have a dead cat in it I need to bury for my daughter. But the funk is all in the garage like bad. What's the best way to get rid of it? I tried to smoke it out, but it didn't work. Thoughts?

Ozone machine would be my best guess.

The garage will air out in a few days but the freezer won't. I tried everything on my freezer that got unplugged, and I mean everything. Baking soda, bleach wash, charcoal, and even an Ozone generator. Finally junked it and bought a new one.

We had a freezer go out a few years back with Deer Heads, Meat, Fish, a Bobcat, that we had to dispose of. Hauled the freezer outside and bleached it out and someone hauled it off. Smell went away away quickly in the Garage after an air out and heavy amount of Freebreeze Spray.

Wash with vinegar- Lots of vinegar. Rinse- repeat. Let it dry and the put a package of kitty litter in it in a container and shut door for about a week.

Had this happen several years ago. Tried everything and could not get the smell out. Wife suggested calling the county extension agent. He said fill it full of newspaper and dump a cap full of vanilla extract in it. Rinse and repeat a few times. We probably had that freezer for 10 more yeas after that with no odor at all. Good luck finding newspaper. I assume the charcoal from the ink is what leached the smell out all I know is that it worked.

Keep us updated if anything works. My money is against a fix.

I’ve had good luck with Coffee getting smells out of metal/plastic/rubber. I would use grounds, beans and prolly smear/wipe with wet coffee grounds…may need something to get the coffee smell out after that but it seems to neutralize/absorb really well.

Fire up a cigarette or two and drop them in there to burn. That’s the worst smell to me and Will over power the dead meat smell [emoji106]

Sure miss those days of being able to hunt a lease for a nominal cost that didn’t create greed and a feeling of despair if you didn’t kill something!

Ozone and charcoal will do it. Can buy an ozone machine for $30 and then use it to de scent your hunting clothes after washing
